One more time we are being faced with an assault on our rights. When the EuroCommission failed with their planned #EUGunban (thanks to your support to our work in Brussels), they didn't stop to think how to violate your rights. And their new approach is an attempted ban on lead ammunition - in 2 phases, this time completely circumventing the democratic process and all the elected officials and representation in the Brussels.
The EuroCommission given the ECHA (the European Chemicals Agency) an assigment to study and come up with results supporting the ban of lead - first in shotgun ammunition and then in all ammunition.
The plan is as follows:
Phase 1️⃣: Ban for the use of lead ammunition in gunshot for hunting in wetlands. This sounds innocent enough, but they changed the used definition of Wetlands to so called Ramsar definition, and added buffer zones where lead shall not be used. The definition of wetlands - and buffer zones - covers pretty much everything where a puddle might appear after the rain "... areas of marsh, fen, peatland or water, whether natural or artificial, permanent or temporary, with water that is static or flowing, fresh, brackish or salt, including areas of marine water the depth of which at low tide does not exceed six metres", and this covers most of the area - including shooting ranges.
This phase 1 is now being finished and it will mean of using lead for hunting or in sport shooting.
Phase 2️⃣: Ban of lead in ammunition and in fishing tackle is the "follow-up" due to fact that first ban seems to be going according plans. We have consulted industry, and this ban means pretty much:
➡️ End of hunting with lead ammunition
➡️ End sportshooting
➡️ Ban of re-loading.
➡️ Your existing firearms are optimized for lead (or material with same density and hardness). This means that price of ammo will skyrocket and also that your existing firearms not build/barreled for new ammunition will either have to re-barreled or lose accuracy.
Further impacts of EUAmmoban can be found from: firearms-united.com/eu-ammo-ban-impacts/
We know what they try to do. They try to use as broad definition as possible in order to state that the lead ammo can't be used. Period.
Now, we need icing on a cake. The EuroCommission is pushing to circumvent the EUParliament and push for a ban without seeking the EUParl consultation nor opinion.
They are unelected officials. They want to take away rights of law abiding citizens. They want to circumvent the EUParl (which btw IS an elected body). They manipulate the data. They do not provide risk analysis. They do not want to have public consultations.
And after all of this - they are surprised that WE, THE PEOPLE expect more and deserve better administration.
Do not waste time. Contact your elected officials, and express your opinion on this blatant violation of democratic process and describe how it makes you feel.
Be polite, but firm.
