Add these to your thought process as you think through your marketing.
Your customer is the hero, not your brand. Most brands start by stating they have the best____ (fill in the blank.) That may be true, but this is the wrong approach—unless you are the market leader. You see, everyone, (including yourself) wakes up in their own story every day. Your customers are striving to become a better person i.e. lose weight, have more friends, make more money or live a happier life. How does your product or service help your customer achieve the thing they want to become? This is a big shift in thinking about your brand that will have a big effect on how you market.
Don't be cute or clever in your messaging. If you’re not a Nike or Apple, you can’t afford to be cute or clever in your messaging. Messaging must be clear. Use an easy to understand header on your website, packaging, trade show booth, or ad to cut through the clutter. Leave cute and clever to your competitors.
Don’t hide the cash register. If your call to action e.g. Buy Now, Shop Now, Sign Up or Schedule A Call button is buried in your website navigation or not stated at least five times on your home page, you’re losing sales. Tell people what you want them to do so there is no confusion.
Tell your prospects how to buy from you. You have to tell customers how to buy from you. For example, design three steps on your home page that says: 1. browse our store, 2. add to cart, 3. enjoy our product. People need to understand in a simple way how to do business with you.
Follow up immediately. As soon as you get a lead or a question about a product or sale, follow up with an email confirmation or thank you to head off any buyer remorse or regret. Reinforce that the action they took is the right one.
These are five tips you can implement today in your marketing that will make you more money.
