Can an AR-15 , AK-47 or similar rifle actually be used to hunt wild game?
Either rifle is a superb hunting weapon.
I have REGULARLY used the AR15 platform for hunting deer and wild hog and the kills were as clean as those from my dedicated .30 cal “hunting” rifle.
Shot placement is the key to the “cleanliness” of a kill, not the ammunition or platform used.
My preferred weapon for eradicating wild hogs is, in fact, a 65 year-old SKS using the same ammunition used in the AK47 platform… It is a finely engineered Russian weapon rather than the less precise ‘knock-offs” produced in their client countries, it is remarkably accurate, quick pointing and when equipped with a 30 round magazine, the available ammunition provides a reliable means of dealing with these destructive invaders…

I always carry my AKM along with what ever hunting rifle I'm using just in case I need more than 3-4 rounds at one time. If I'm hunting coyotes ill use only the AK. Sometimes my friends ask why I need 30 rounds while hunting, and I always explain to them that you dont have to shoot every round in the mag. Its okay to go home with rounds left over, and I don't see the difference between one shot fired from a hunting rifle and one shot fired from an AK.

I always loan my daughter my AK for deer hunting. It's light weight, low recoil, easy to handle for her petite frame. I carry either a FNAR or M1A. My son uses an AR in 6.8 SPC. We hunt with these weapons because, 1) they work just as well as traditional sporting rifles. 2) No politician has passed a law yet saying we can't... YET. Enjoying them while we can. 3) If your going to piss off the anti-gun, anti-hunting crowd, do it right.

Hunted with a older man 'older than me I was a kid' in the early 80,s he keep a 'I am guessing simauto' as his bad day hog/bear gun. The days were 70-80s scopes did not work. Or really foggy or had to go in to the tide eye swamps. He was a nam vet. I don't rember the safety but I do rember the mill out over the mag. So I think it would have had a miles reciver.
