Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian during protests along the fortified Gaza-Israel border, the Palestinian health ministry said.
If you would go to the Pakistani border with several thousand of your friends and re-enact the weekly rioting the Gazans engage in. Then begin running towards the border and see how many of you manage to get over it without being shot. Chances are, if you keep your distance you will be fine. So if you get shot it is probably because you chose to take your chances and risk getting shot by confronting the soldiers guarding the Pakistani border. Not very wise, but if you believe that martyrdom is a commendable act, then have at it, just like the Hamas fundamentalist Moslems who do precisely that at the Gaza separation fence.
A 2007 study of Palestinian suicide bombings during the Second Intifada (September 2000 through August 2005) found that 39.9 percent of the suicide attacks were carried out by Hamas, 26.4 percent by Fatah, 25.7 percent by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), 5.4 percent by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and 2.7 percent by other organizations. During the period in question around one hundred and fifty Palestinians, 40% of whom were Hamas members, strapped bombs to their chest and detonated them on buses, and in shopping malls cafes and restaurants, killing themselves and over a thousand Israeli civilians, and wounding another six thousand at least. So I don’t think there can be much doubt that the Gazans who are shot at the border have every intention of becoming martyrs, while the thousands and thousands of others who “protest” without being hurt prove that Israel is not acting against protesters, but against attackers hoping to infiltrate the border or die trying.
