I like the M-29 Classic. The old Dirty Harry gun. I must admit I didn't get this gun to hunt with. It was a surprise from my wife. I had been looking for a .44 mag to go on a hog hunt with and she got me this one. Model-29/10 Classic S&W .44 mag.

I have a Ruger New Super Blackhawk, stainless, 10 1/2 bbl. It's great for target, silhouette, I never carry it as a "sidearm" although I have the holster for it.
I have the Smith 629, 4" -- GREAT gun for packing! Not CCW, but open carry. It's like a small carbine. That said, the 6" bbl would be just as easy to "open carry" -- like out in the woods, where I carry this gun.
6" offers a longer sight radius and more velocity. I think maybe 4" is too short for a 44 mag. -- to get the max from a 44 mag. load.
4" seems a nice size, generally . . . It's a big gun, but not monsterous.
I've looked at the Ruger Redhawk, and now the Ruger Alaskan -- which is a Redhawk cut down to a short barrel in some big calibers, like Casul.
For a general, out in the woods, carry side arm, I like the 4" Smith, but the Redhawk would be good too.
I got my Smith because it was in the case at the shop used, a good gun at a good used price. But it's what I want.
Pretty much like chosing a wife. And I can't help much with that
