KA-BAR Knives, Spartan Blades Form Pineland Cutlery
KA-BAR Inc. and Spartan Blades LLC announce a new joint venture, Pineland Cutlery Inc.
KA-BAR brings its storied history, ability to leverage American mass production and an existing network of dealers and distributors to the partnership. Formed in 1898, the company rose to prominence during World War II with the popularity of the 1219C2 fighting/utility knife.
Spartan Blades adds its reputation for producing high-end, mission-specific fixed blades and quality folding knives, along with close ties to the U.S. military (its co-founders are special forces veterans), to the new venture. Both companies’ combined strengths position Pineland Cutlery well for growth.
“The creation of Pineland Cutlery is a force multiplier for both KA-BAR and Spartan Blades. We are excited to work hand-in-hand with Spartan,” said KA-BAR CEO John Stitt.
“We are proud to be partnering with one of the largest and most storied companies in the U.S. By partnering with KA-BAR, we are expanding our footprint internationally and will benefit from their manufacturing and distribution expertise,” said Curtis Iovito, co-owner of Spartan Blades.
“Mergers, partnerships and, most importantly, friendships are something
KA-BAR has been built on. It is at our core; it is in our values,” Stitt said. “Curtis and Mark [Carey, co-owner] have been friends of ours for a long time. Spartan Blades brings certain elements to the table that are very hard to find and even harder to cultivate.”
Pineland Cutlery is headquartered in Southern Pines, N.C., also the home of Spartan Blades. KA-BAR Knives is located in Olean, N.Y.
