GLOCK Secures Allentown PD Pistol Contract
GLOCK Inc. announces the Allentown (Pa). Police Department has transitioned to a GLOCK Gen5 variation for its duty pistols.
With a population of over 120,000, Allentown is the third largest city in Pennsylvania. It is also home to the Allentown Police Academy, which supports the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
“GLOCK is excited to welcome the men and women of the Allentown PD to the growing GLOCK family, and values the trust they have placed in our pistols,” said GLOCK VP Josh Dorsey. “We recognize the time and effort they have placed on evaluating what pistol is the best choice for the agency, and could not be more grateful for the partnership.”
The GLOCK 19 Gen5 pistols selected by the Allentown PD are a variation of the M pistol selected by the FBI. GLOCK has undertaken design changes to meet the demand of its consumers worldwide.
Among the design enhancements in the Gen5 are the GLOCK Marksman Barrel that includes enhanced polygonal rifling and an improved barrel crown; the removal of finger grooves; an ambidextrous slide-stop lever for better versatility and control and an nDLC finish exclusive to the GLOCK manufacturing process.
“Really, what it comes down to is GLOCK produces a reliable, efficient, effective and user-friendly product. I believe GLOCK is one of the most law enforcement-friendly companies I have had the pleasure in dealing with,” said Michael Yetter, training officer at the Allentown Police Academy.
Yetter says he has seen an increase in qualification scores at the Academy since transitioning to GLOCK.
