NSSF, NCPC McGruff Gun Safety Videos Receive Telly Awards
The NSSF announces two of its McGruff on Gun Safety videos, in partnership with the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), have been honored with Bronze Tellys.
The videos, “Not Cool, Kyle” and “Molly’s Mischief,” garnered the recognition from the 40th Annual Telly Awards in the Social Responsibility category for Branded Content.
The Telly Awards honor excellence in video and television. Entries are judged by leaders from video platforms, television, streaming networks and production companies that include Vice, Vimeo, Hearst Digital Media, BuzzFeed and A&E Networks.
The two short videos feature McGruff and his nephew Scruff, who teaches his friends what to do if they find a gun or see someone bring a gun to school.
“NSSF believes strongly in teaching young children and their parents about firearms safety, and we are thrilled to have the McGruff videos, a creative collaboration with NCPC, honored with prestigious Telly Awards. We hope this recognition will mean an even larger viewership of these videos and their important safety messages,” said Steve Sanetti, NSSF CEO.
“NCPC is delighted to be recognized for the work we’ve done with NSSF on educating children and their families on gun safety,” said Ann Harkins, NCPC president and CEO. “The McGruff videos are an informative and fun way to learn about the four steps to gun safety, and to get families talking about it together.”
The 40th Annual Telly Awards drew more than 12,000 entries from top video content producers. The McGruff on Gun Safety videos were created by Danger Pigeon Studios.

The 2019 tournament was held August 9, at Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, N.H., and expanded to 192 golfers who contributed to the near doubling of the monies raised for the HAVA organization.
“For over a decade, the HAVA organization has been reintegrating disabled veterans and injured military into American life through outdoor activities and the shooting sports,” said Tom Taylor, SIG SAUER CMO and EVP, commercial sales. “For everyone at SIG SAUER it’s an honor to support this meaningful program, and contribute to continuing the services provided by HAVA that are making a difference in the lives of the men and women who fought to protect our freedoms.”
HAVA, a 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 2007 by a group of executives from the hunting and shooting industry to help disabled veterans and injured active-duty military returning from war heal and reintegrate into everyday life through participation in outdoor activities. HAVA sponsors guided hunts, shooting events and outdoor activities across the country hosting hundreds of veterans annually.
