MiG-21 and Electronic Warfare ๐ฎ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐โก๐นโ๐ก
It is Indian Air Force MiG-21 "Bison". But the special thing here is the equipment it is carrying on its leftmost pylon. That is ELTA EL/M-8222 Self Protection Pod. Bison is a third generation aircraft and carries a Russian Kopyo-M radar. It is really a fortune for Indian Air Force as they are succesful in cueing the Israeli jammer with the Russian radar, indicating how strong is the ties between Israel and India.
MiG-21 is a legendary fighter that served for India in various wars. Since 1965, Indian Air Force utilised MiG-21 for combat operations. The first MiG 21s that entered in service with Indian Air Force was MiG-21F-13. Later, various new variants were purchased. The latest Bison is an upgraded variant of MiG-21Bis with significant changes, specially a new radar that gives it Beyond Visual Range capability. With the Kopyo radar, the aircraft owns a max detection range upto 80 km, hence, allowing it to carry and deploy RVV-AE (R-77) BVRAAM.
With the addition of state-of-the-art EL/M-8222 Jammer, MiG-21 now carries a significant Electronic Warfare capability that is not common in the other aircrafts of the generation. It is capable of cutting the network of the enemy radar with other components. In simple words, it can break the connnection between the enemy radar and it's armament, therefore, making the fighter jet an obsolete machine and an easy target in the sky.

Israel supplied various such high-standard equipments to India and in combat, they performed very well and according to expectations. Whether it is 1999 or 2019, Israeli LGBs hit their targets with high precision. Therefore, one can trust the MiG-21 "Bison" in the case of it's air-to-air engagement capability. However, I am quite unsure whether this SPJ is deployed in wide numbers or not.
