I don’t think that the US cares about the Muslim Uighurs. The US is well known for bombing Muslim countries, causing the death of millions of Muslims and making millions of Muslims homeless and displaced from their homelands.
No, they really don’t care about Muslims.
What the US cares about is control over oil and maintaining their position as the only superpower in the world.
China is now a big threat to the US because China’s economy is growing fast and is expected to overtake the US within a few years. One of the key initiatives for China’s further growth is their One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative.
Through OBOR, China hopes to revive the Silk Road that connects China to the West for significantly increased trade with the West.
However, for OBOR to succeed, China must have control over Xinjiang. This is why, in the year 60 BCE, China took control of the Xinjiang area.
All railway lines and roads linking China to the West must pass through Xinjiang. Without Xinjiang, there won’t be OBOR.
The US would like very much to wrest control of Xinjiang from China so that China’s economic growth will be slowed down. By making it appear that China is cruel towards the Uighurs in Xinjiang, the US hopes to get the rest of the world to agree to find ways to make Xinjiang a separate country - that the US can control. This is why they keep calling the region “East Turkestan” and not Xinjiang.
This is the real reason for the US suddenly caring about “China’s mistreatment of Uighurs” (that the US made up, because in reality there is no problem in Xinjiang).
The other reason is that Xinjiang has a huge oil reserve. The US is always interested in countries with a huge oil reserve, such as Iraq (successfully invaded), Libya (successfully invaded), Syria (failed to invade recently), Venezuela (looking for a suitable time to invade) and Iran (looking for a suitable time to invade).
Please don’t be misled by the US suddenly caring for Muslims in China.
