Is fishing a sport?
By Jay Wolak
Absolutely fishing is a sport! Take tournament bass fishing for example….. it’s not luck who wins…. It’s experience and pattern fishing . I’ve done it many many times. It requires precise casting, statistics, coordination , mental focus , stamina to take sometimes two casts per minute … maybe three ! And do it for 8–10 hours 4 days straight !
A lot of science Is involved along with narrowing down and eliminating water that doesn’t produce fish . In a bass tournament you also need to manage your fish. You have four days ….. your hot spot has to last so you can close out on trophy day and put a big check in your pocket . If you have 2–3 honey holes it’s important to let the fish either replenish or manage the spot secretively ….. catch them and get out of there so no one else closes in on you . There’s way more to the sport than just randomly catching fish . Time on the water is key! The pros are pros for a reason , they give them free boats , trucks etc…. For a reason

Fishing is all about the context in terms of whether it's a sport or not. ... Neither of those things require any skill or exertion and have no competition, ergo they are not sports. Hauling in a 50-pound tuna in a fishing tournament is another matter. Fishing is only a sport when it's a sport.

They consisently catch fish and when they get a lead they know how to close the deal ! At least most pros do ! It’s a sport 100% a very intense sport that requires concentration , know how, timing, coordination, stamina, mental control and most importantly decision making .
