Petty Officer Charles Keating, IV, served as an advisor from SEAL Team 1 during Operation Inherent Resolve. When his coalition team was attacked by over 100 enemy insurgents, Keating directed their defense. He continually moved around the perimeter, exposing himself to enemy fire, in order to help repel the attack. The enemy then tried to drive a truck bomb through the team. Keating appeared at the sector threatened by the vehicle and helped neutralize the threat before it caused any harm.

Keating continued working and training with his team. Two months later, in May 2016, he was killed in another firefight. For his leadership and boldness under fire, Keating was posthumously awarded the Silver Star.

"... on 4 March 2016, while serving as Senior Enlisted Advisor, Trident 1125A, SEAL Team ONE in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Petty Officer Keating's leadership and physical courage were the key factors in defeating an assault on friendly lines by more than 100 enemy fighters. After directing troops in repelling the enemy's initial incursion, he coordinated with the immediate reaction force and continued engaging enemy fighters. He continually exposed himself to enemy automatic weapon, mortar, and RPG fire as he maneuvered between the front and flanks of the defensive fighting position. When the enemy attempted to flank his position with a vehicle-borne IED, Petty Officer Keating led a team to intercept and neutralize the threat. His personal bravery inspired his comrades to defend their position and repel the enemy. He continued to train partner forces until mortally wounded by enemy fire on 3 May 2016."
