Head-space, pressures...chamber difference between .308 and 7.62 x 51 NATO
Me and my son both have a .308 well mine is a Ruger SR 7.62x51. My Sons rifle is a HOWA 1500 .308
I know the pressures are different but the info I posted from the link below talks about different chambers. when we were at the range my Lake City 7.62 would not chamber in his rifle and the bolt wouldn't close even though the manufacturer says either will. he did say Federal 7.62 (white box) that he bought would chamber. They say the brass is thicker at the base for 7.62 according to what I have read. The ammo I have is all loaded to the correct OAL by the manual.
However my SR 762 They say shoots the .308 but is not recommended from what I read in the article.

In terms of pressure, there is a wide (very wide) gap between the 7.62 NATO and the .308 Winchester. Recommends here in the strongest possible terms that you do not fire factory .308 Winchester ammunition in any Mil-Surp rifle chambered for the 7.62 NATO round.
SO DO NOT fire .308 factory ammo in a 7.62 NATO chambered rifle!
